How Accessible is Steelrising?

How Accessible is Steelrising?

Accessibility in games has been getting better as of late, so you might be wondering how it is in the latest games. In this article I’ll go over the accessibility options available in Steelrising.

Steelrising boasts a helpful feature named Assist Mode, which aims to make this soulslike a lot more accessible. I mention this first because the game asks if you want it enabled before you even get to control Aegis! However, if you do enable it you will be unable to unlock some achievements/trophies, even if you later disable it. You will need to play through the game without Assist Mode if you want those achievements!

Assist Mode allows you to reduce the amount of damage you take, choose whether you keep Anima Essence when you inevitably die, increase your endurance regeneration speed, and enable “easy cooling”. That last one turns all Rapid Cooldowns into Perfect Cooldowns, so that you’re not struggling to hit those in the heat of battle.

As far as making soulslike games more accessible to everyone, Steelrising and its Assist Mode really does help to level the playing field. As someone who doesn’t play soulslike games because of their difficulty, I found myself able to actually defeat bosses without dying.

In the Options menu you can rebind the controls in Game Controls, enable and change the size of subtitles in Game, and that’s about it. Sure you can change the camera sensitivity and invert the camera, adjust the usual volume sliders, and adjust the field of view, but everything else is just the basic stuff you find in any game. There isn’t even an option to disable motion blur.

Oh, but you can disable Aegis’ hat, so there is that.

So there you have it, Steelrising’s accessibility options. I hope that helps you play!
