Dota 2 Compedium Smashes Previous Record

Within 24 hours of its release on Friday, Dota 2's International Compendium broke last year's contribution record, putting the winner's pot for the International Dota 2 Championships at $3.9 million.

The Compendium, which fans can purchase for £5.99, was introduced last year as a way for the community to contribute to the victor's purse for the Championships, boosting it above Valve's $1.6 million contribution. Fans can use it to follow the action at the Championship, collect player cards and earn rewards for their own copy of Dota 2. Players level up their Compendium to access a range of extras like new character skins, Immortal Treasure and a new game mode.

Roughly £1.50 of each Compendium sale goes toward the winner's pot, and the Championship has already reached eight out of its thirteen stretch goals (which cap at $6 million). Sales will continue for the two months leading up to the International Championships from July 18th through the 20th in Seattle, Washington.

The International Dota 2 Championship made more than a few headlines earlier this year when tickets sold out in less than hour. However, for those not lucky enough to have grabbed a ticket the Championship will be broadcast live in multiple languages free of charge.

After being told dragontamer is "not a real job", she settled for being a word typer-upper. Finally got those San Diego Comic Con tickets.
