While Waiting Preview

While Waiting Preview

While Waiting is an interesting game that is being developed and published by Optillusion. I came across it while covering this year's events, and the simple yet humorous style got me curious immediately!

Originally, I didn't understand what the game was about.I thought it was an idle title where you just kind of hang out and wait for life to happen in-game and in real life, but upon booting up the demo, I found something even better — While Waiting is a puzzle title, and although you can just let time pass, you have the option to complete the checklist of mischievous activities while you wait.

One of my favourite features is that you don't really get told exactly what you can do; instead, a cute little picture at the top right part of the screen and a vague hint (such as "Feel invincible") are the only two clues you have. This ended up with my wife and I brainstorming (she was snooping and ended up joining me in the silliness) as we put our noggins together and tried to figure out what I was supposed to be doing.

Another great mechanic is that you don't go level by level: there's a time limit, as the wait does end, whether you complete the tasks or not. While this might be a bit anxiety-inducing for some (it certainly was a bit stressful for me at times but in a good way), it did prevent me from getting obsessed with completing everything in the level before moving on. This deadly habit has cost me my interest in too many puzzle games for me to count.

While Waiting is a phenomenal title that brings a ton of humour to usually mundane, boring, or even stressful situations. The character's grumpy face adds further ridiculousness to the different situations, and the downright dry comedy really hits the spot in a title like this!

If you're a fan of challenges and silliness, I recommend checking out the demo, too; this wholesome little adventure offers more entertainment than originally meets the eye! And it also reminded me why I hate mobile games, but you'll understand when you play it.
