Complete Synthesis Guide for KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX

Complete Synthesis Guide for KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX

With the Steam release of the KINGDOM HEARTS franchise, I decided it was finally time for me to replay the title. Originally having played it years ago in the age of yore (PlayStation 2 era), I didn't really know much about gaming at the time. As such, I missed out on one of the biggest end-game grinds that KINGDOM HEARTS has to offer: the Moogle Synthesis Shop.

If you don't know, after going to Agrabah and unlocking the Green Trinity, you can go to the Accessory Shop in Traverse Town and use it to unlock the Moogle Synthesis Shop. This unique area gives you the capability to unlock items by crafting them with materials you've been gathering over your rampage across the Disney-themed worlds, as each Heartless can drop different types of materials for this. And better yet, this gives you the capability to unlock one of the most powerful weapons in the game for each of the three characters, the best accessories, and the ever-rare AP, Defense, and Power Ups that give you permanent stats.

In this guide, I'll be sharing the recipes for each of the items, when you can unlock it, what the items do (I hated having to synthesise accessories without knowing what I'd get), and even when you can farm these.

Oh, and of course, we'll be dancing around minor spoilers here and there. So, spoiler warning, though not for major events but rather when you unlock necessary items to do things — advance to each Group only by the latest one you have unlocked.

If you want to find the entire Material Synthesis Guide, coupled with how many you need total per item, which Heartless drop it, and in which world, you can find it right here. This guide will also link to all of the rare materials, so if you're struggling with any, you can find it over there!

Without further ado, let's start with the very first Group of recipes you get...

Group I Recipes

20240717124827 1

The standard Group that you start with has six different items you'll see, with four accessories, two consumables, and the very enticing, yet ever elusive, EXP Earring. To be able to unlock the next Group of recipes, you'll need to craft three unique items from this one.

Coming into the game from a newcomer perspective, you'll likely see the EXP Earring and be allured by it, yet don't mistake this: though you unlock Moogle Synthesis Shop after Agrabah, you won't be able to complete all of these items until quite a bit later. The EXP Earring specifically needs an ability (named Ragnarok) that you will not unlock until the endgame.Literally, two worlds away from finishing the entire experience.

Items you can synthesise:

Mega-Potion (Restores 30 HP to every party member)

  • Spirit Shard 1
  • Power Shard 1
  • Mythril Shard 4

20240717125629 1

Cottage (Restores all of the party's HP and MP — only usable from the menu)

  • Lucid Shard 1
  • Bright Shard 1

Energy Bangle (+3 HP, +1 DEF)

  • Spirit Shard 2
  • Bright Shard 1

Power Chain (+1 STR)

  • Power Shard 2
  • Lucid Shard 1

Magic Armlet (+1 MP)

  • Blaze Shard 3
  • Frost Shard 3
  • Thunder Shard 3

EXP Earring (Increases the party's experience by 20%)

  • Fury Stone 1
  • Power Stone 1
  • Mythril Stone 1
  • Serenity Power 1
  • Dark Matter 3

Group II Recipes

Three unique items of Group I

To unlock this tier, you'll have already crafted half of the Group I Recipes, and it'll give you the opportunity to continue advancing on some of the accessories and consumables you'll want to get. This Group consists of six new items unlocked, and to get the Group III items, you'll need to have crafted nine unique items, likely a mixture of Group I and Group II.

Group II is more mid-game than the EXP Earring since it doesn't require Serenity Power. Realistically, you can craft all of the items from this Group by Halloween Town. It's also worth noting here that things that require Shards or Gems are easier to acquire than those that require Stones, so if you happen to want two Golem Chains or Angel Bangles, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, and it shouldn't increase your grind time by a whole lot.

Items you can synthesise:

Mega-Ether (Restores 3 MP to every party member)

  • Blaze Shard 1
  • Frost Shard 1
  • Thunder Shard 1
  • Mythril 2

20240717125558 1

Guard Earring (+3 AP, +1 DEF)

  • Bright Shard 3
  • Frost Shard 1
  • Mythril Shard 3

Angel Bangle (+6 HP, +2 DEF)

  • Thunder Shard 3
  • Bright Gem 1

Golem Chain (+3 STR, +1 DEF)

  • Blaze Shard 3
  • Spirit Gem 1

Rune Armlet (+1 MP, +1 DEF, also raises Summon and Magic power)

  • Blaze Gem 3
  • Frost Gem 3
  • Thunder Gem 3

Moogle Badge (+6 HP, +1 MP, +2 AP)

  • Blazing Stone 1
  • Frost Stone 1
  • Lightning Stone 1
  • Mythril 5
  • Orichalcum 3

Group III Recipes

Nine unique items across Groups I and II

Every Group (aside from Group VI, the last one) gives an extra six items for you to craft. In Group III, you'll find the same general ruleset. This time around, you get the first opportunity to craft a Synthesis material (Mythril), though it's worth noting that you won't need to craft it more than the one time to unlock the items in Group IV.

The only rare items you'll need in Group III are Fury Stone, Lightning Stone, Power Stone, Mythril Stone, and Mystery Goo. Due to this, all of the items in this group are farmable by the time you lock Traverse Town and unlock the capability to farm the Power Stone. You could, theoretically, make all of the items in this one to continue on to Group IV, and if that's what you want to do, don't let us stop you — Group III is home to a lot of strong accessories that'll help you on your journey, especially in Proud. And, unlocking Group IV is pretty useful for both EXP farms and getting Stone items mucheasier. You'll see why.

Items you can synthesise:

AP Up (Raises a chosen character's AP by one permanently)

  • Blaze Gem 2
  • Frost Gem 2
  • Thunder Gem 2
  • Mythril 4

20240717124835 1

Dark Ring (Reduces dark damage by 20%, +3 DEF)

  • Lucid Gem 2
  • Bright Gem 2

Master Earring (+4 AP, +2 DEF)

  • Spirit Shard 5
  • Spirit Gem 3
  • Fury Stone 1

Gaia Bangle (+9 HP, +3 DEF)

  • Lucid Shard 5
  • Lucid Gem 3
  • Lightning Stone 1

Titan Chain (+4 STR, +2 DEF)

  • Power Shard 5
  • Power Gem 3
  • Power Stone 1

Mythril

  • Mythril Shard 5
  • Mythril Stone 1
  • Mystery Goo 1

Group IV Recipes

15 unique items across Groups I, II, and III

Once you've reached Group IV, you'll unlock one of the most useful abilities in the whole game: Encounter Plus. With this, you have the opportunity to make farming Heartless much easier because they'll respawn each time you pass through a loading screen. Traditionally, enemies only spawn when you leave two zones away, but with this, you can leave and come back until a favourable wave of Heartless has spawned, making the process of getting to Group VI much easier.

However, something that might shock you is that Group IV is home to the flat-out best accessory in the game, too — the Crystal Crown. There is no build that Crystal Crown doesn't fit in, and ironically, it's one of the easiest Synthesis items to farm out. If you get the opportunity to get this and are struggling past a certain world, it's not a bad idea to lag behind a bit and farm yourself a Crystal Crown... or three; I won't judge if you won't!

The main problem you'll encounter when trying to finish Group IV is the inclusion of Dark Matter; this is an item you can find from specific chests in the world, or you can synthesise when you get to Group V. The only one that used Dark Matter by this point is the Atlas Armlet, which is a defensive accessory that, quite frankly, you could do without. If you can avoid it, don't waste your Dark Matter here until it is one of the last unique items you haven't crafted.

Otherwise, Group IV can be farmed out once you've finished your first visit to Hollow Bastion, which is pretty much the end of the game. The Crystal items included (Lucid Crystal, Bright Crystal, Shiny Crystal, and Power Crystal) all drop from enemies that don't exist until you've visited Hollow Bastion. And, I'll add a disclaimer here: if you have the opportunity, don't advance and instead farm out some of the main rare materials you'll need; once you go to Hollow Bastion, every world receives a power boost. Finish everything you can before advancing.

Items you can synthesise:

Elixir (Fully restores a character's HP and MP)

  • Power Crystal 1
  • Shiny Crystal 1
  • Bright Crystal 2
  • Orichalcum 3

Defense Up (Raises a chosen character's defence by one)

  • Lucid Shard 3
  • Bright Shard 3
  • Bright Gem 2
  • Power Crystal 1
  • Orichalcum 5

Heartguard (Reduces dark damage by 20%, +3 HP, +4 DEF)

  • Lucid Gem 3
  • Lucid Crystal 1
  • Bright Crystal 1

Three Stars (Reduces fire, ice, and lightning damage by 20%, +3 DEF)

  • Power Gem 5
  • Mystery Goo 3
  • Shiny Crystal 1

Atlas Armlet (+6 HP, +2 DEF, also significantly enhances Magic and Summon power)

  • Blaze Shard 5
  • Frost Shard 5
  • Thunder Shard 5
  • Mystery Goo 1
  • Dark Matter 3

Crystal Crown (+6 HP, +1 MP, +3 AP, +2 STR, +2 DEF, also enhances Magic and Summon power)

  • Lucid Crystal 5
  • Power Crystal 1
  • Shiny Crystal 1
  • Blazing Stone 3
  • Frost Stone 3

Group V Recipes

21 unique items across Groups I–IV

Welcome to Group V, and the last hurdle between you and the end of the Synthesis grind. You really won't be able to finish Group V until you actually narrowly finish the game, and most of the Synthesis items moving forward exist to help you out on the final boss and the numerous optional bosses scattered throughout the game. KINGDOM HEARTS has a very clear point of no return, so make a save and either continue as you will or go back and finish out the rest of the items.

The most alluring thing here by far is the Cosmic Arts accessory, one of the best accessories in the game, alongside the EXP Bracelet. At this point, I'd suggest getting to the end of the game before you try to move forward, and once you do start farming, get the EXP Bracelet first. If you're going for a 100% or want to have everything possible, it's a good idea to have the EXP Bracelet and the EXP Earring equipped on someone in your party (Sora doesn't have to be the one to have it — it'll work party-wide regardless, so I'd suggest slapping it on Goofy). This last bit of the game is a grind, especially for those going for full completion, so having the EXP stuff on early gives you the opportunity to hit 99 ASAP.

Otherwise, items like Gale, Stormy Force, and Dark Matter are unacquirable until End of the World, anyway. At this point, feel free to pick whichever item you want to get, as you'll want to get everything to reach the end of this long grind!

Items you can synthesise:

Dark Matter

  • Lucid Shard 9
  • Gale 1
  • Mythril 2

Megalixir (Fully restores the party's HP and MP)

  • Gale 2
  • Dark Matter 1

  • Spirit Shard 5
  • Spirit Gem 3
  • Power Shard 5
  • Power Gem 3
  • Dark Matter 1

Cosmic Arts (+9 HP, +2 MP, +2 AP)

  • Bright Shard 5
  • Bright Gem 3
  • Bright Crystal 1
  • Mythril Stone 3

EXP Bracelet (Increases the party's experience by 30%)

  • Energy Stone 1
  • Dazzling Stone 1
  • Stormy Stone 1
  • Orichalcum 8
  • Dark Matter 3

Ribbon (Reduces all elemental damage by 20%, +3 DEF)

  • Blaze Gem 5

  • Thunder Gem 5
  • Gale 1
  • Serenity Power 3

Group VI recipes

All unique items synthesised

Finally, we've made it to Group VI, the ever-sought-after weapons! Funnily, though these weapons are great, they aren't typically best-in-slot for some of the characters, and you'd have a better time equipping them with others. They're not bad, mind, they're actually pretty great weapons, but you'll want to use these as a stepping stone to finishing the last bit of the post-game content and unlocking what you really want.

Aside from the Ultima Weapon. Honestly, I don'tthink you can go wrong with Ultima Weapon ever.

Items you can synthesise:

Fantasista (+3 STR, +3 MP)

  • Fury Stone 3
  • Power Stone 3
  • Mythril Stone 3
  • Energy Stone 5

Seven Elements (+4 STR, +3 MP)

  • Blazing Stone 3
  • Frost Stone 3
  • Lightning Stone 3
  • Dazzling Stone 5

Ultima Weapon (+14 STR, +2 MP)

  • Thunder Gem 5
  • Mystery Goo 5
  • Serenity Power 3
  • Stormy Stone 3
  • Dark Matter 3
