Electronic Arts Close Maxis
In a move that will shatter the hearts of many a gamer Electronic Arts have closed Maxis Emeryville, the studio that was responsible for Sim City, Spore, and The Sims amongst others.
The studio had its issues recently after the total calamity that was the Sim City launch, but it still brings a lump to the throat to think of the original Maxis headquarters closing.
The news was broken by Guillaume Pierre, the lead gameplay scripter for Sim City.
Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. #RIPMaxisEmeryville

Barrie Tingle, a former Live Producer at Maxis tweeted the following in response to a tweet asking him to confirm the news.
.@Nahirk yep HR is in talks with is all about severance package or new positions.

Our best wishes go to all at Emeryville, it's never fun to have your employer cut your knees out from under you like this.
It should be noted, that The Sims 4 will not be affected by this as it is developed at Maxis Redwood Shores.

IIRC Spore had a terrible launch too, so I can't help but wonder if they had it coming.
