Taiko no Tatsujin Drum 'n' Fun! to be Delisted Later this Month
The first release of Taiko no Tatsujin on the Nintendo Switch is getting discontinued, according to the official Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia X account, @BandaiNamcoSEA. Taiko no Tatsujin Drum 'n' Fun received positive critic and public reception, but just five years after its release, its sales will be discontinued.
On the 30th of November 2023 at 3:59 pm GMT, the game will no longer be available for purchase. The reason for discontinuation remains obscure, but it is likely linked to the music license that plagues so many of these titles, and five years after release, it's no surprise that its license may have run out. Sales will be discontinued both digitally and physically.
That said, however, there are a few disclaimers in Bandai Namco's post about its discontinuation, including one about DLC. All DLC will remain purchasable past the main game's discontinuation, meaning that all of the 134 DLC that are available right now can still be bought until further notice. All players will also be able to download their previously purchased DLC once the sales have ended, which should be a breath of fresh air for those who were worried about losing access to all of their library of Taiko no Tatsujin Drum 'n' Fun content.

Bandai Namco encourages users to join the fun with Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival for the Nintendo Switch, which received to critical acclaim on the 23rd of September 2022. Hopefully, this means that continued support for Rhythm Festival will be available for now, as the Drum 'n' Fun discontinuation paints a grim picture for the future of rhythm-based titles, whether that is from the franchise or others as well.
You have until the 30th of November 2023 to buy the game before it runs out, and from there onward, you'll also be able to buy the DLC for the foreseeable future, though discontinuation of those might be just around the corner.
