MCM London Comic Con Breaks Previous Attendance Records
the UK's biggest comics and pop culture expo announced a record 101,600 attendees for MCM London Comic Con last weekend, smashing the previous reccord by over 13,000.
According to co-organiser Bryan Cooney, the rise in attendance is reflective of a growing interest in comics and traditional 'geek culture': "The soaring attendance not only reflects a growing worldwide interest in comic cons [...] but also the strength of the community that has built up around it over the years." Cooney attributes MCM's success to its wide range of offerings, from J-fashion and anime to sci-fi and AAA video games, as well as its ability to bring in impressive guest line-ups; this past weekend's special guests included James Cosmo (Jeor Mormont on Game of Thrones) and Annette Badland (Doctor Who).
MCM London Comic Con is a biannual event held in May and October at the Excel Centre in London.
