Nintendo Reports Its Best-Selling Games for Wii U and 3DS

Along with the other financial information Nintendo has released for the past fiscal year, the gaming colossus has included a list of some of the best-selling games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Beginning with the Wii U, which mostly seems to come up when  upcoming games will not be released for it, the list is pretty Mario-heavy, which doesn't come as a surprise:

1. New Super Mario Bros. U (4.1 million copies)
2. Nintendo Land (3 million)
3. Super Mario 3D World (2.1 million)
4. New Super Luigi U (1.76 million)
5. Wii Party U (1.35 million)
6. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (1.2 million)

The Wii U still has a long way to go before its game approach the success of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii (which sold almost double the combined number of units for the Wii U's top six games), but give that the console's only a little over a year and a half old, there's still time for it grow. Of course, the bigger seller for the Wii is still Wii Sports at a whopping 82.5 million copies. Not bad for a console that was pretty universally panned for most of its lifespan.

Conversely. the 3DS is coming across small but mighty for Nintendo, although not many surprises on this list:

1. Pokemon X & Y  (12.26 million)
2. Mario Kart 7 (9.6 million)
3. Super Mario Land 3D (9.2 million)
4. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (7.8 million)
5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (7.6 million)
6. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3.98 million)

Of course, with several big name releases in the future like Watch_Dogs and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire it wouldn't be surprising to see those rankings shaken up this time next year. Overall, Nintendo has reported an annual loss for the third year in a row, and Wii U lifetime sales have been a measly 6.17 million--for comparison, Sony has sold 7 million PlayStation 4's since they hit shelves last November.
