Sony CEO Jim Ryan Retires After Nearly 30 Years

In a recent press release, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Jim Ryan has chosen to retire after nearly 30 years at the company, effective in March 2024.

Jim Ryan joined Sony in 1994, getting numerous high-level positions, such as President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, Head of Global Sales and Marketing at SIE, and Deputy President of SIE before becoming CEO in 2019, overseeing the launch of the PlayStation 5 and dealing with COVID-19.

In the press release, Jim Ryan leaves a farewell.

Jim Ryan:

“After 30 years, I have made the decision to retire from SIE in March 2024. I’ve relished the opportunity to have a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and incredible partners. But I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America. I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE. I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly sensitive and supportive leader.”

Meanwhile, Sony Group Corporation (SGC) President, COO, and CFO, Hiroki Totoki, will act as CEO on the 1st of April 2024, working closely with SGC CEO, Chairman Kenshiro Yoshida, and the management team of SIE to help transition into a new chapter of PlayStation, which will include Jim Ryan’s successor.
